Meet Ben Hanson

With family from Crosby to Casselton, Ben Hanson is a lifelong North Dakotan with deep roots in communities throughout the state.

He has fond memories of long car rides to his family’s farms in the Casselton-Amenia area, where his grandfather helped start the first ever sugar beet co-op in North America. His family traveled often to Williston and Crosby, where his other grandfather served as a state senator after his return home from World War II to farm in Williams and Divide County.

Public service runs deep in Ben’s family, with a tradition of giving back to the communities that have done so much for them. That’s why Ben knew at a young age that he was tasked with carrying on that tradition. Like his grandfather before him, Ben’s path forward for engaging in the community was to run for office.

His first run for public office was at 19 years old, when he ran for the Fargo Park Board. Since then, in addition to serving on countless boards and committees, Ben was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives where he served as the House Caucus Co-Chair.

While serving the people of District 16, Ben focused on making North Dakota a leader in creating good-paying technology jobs and making state government more transparent.

He sat on the boards of the Bonanzaville Historical Society and the Friends of the Fargo Public Library. Ben was the Government Relations Chair of the North Dakota and South Dakota chapter of the International Council of Shopping Centers, and was the Chair of the Fargo/Moorhead Area Association of Realtors Government Relations Committee. Ben is a member of numerous community organizations, including the North Dakota Association of Realtors Government Relations Committee; the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead Public Issues Committee; the West Fargo Exchange Club; Hope Lutheran Church; the Fargo-Moorhead Association of Realtors and Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead joint Special Assessments Task Force; and the Fargo-Moorhead Association of Realtors "Realtor PAC" Committee.

Ben grew up in the Red River Valley, attending Fargo South High School, and he is a graduate of Minnesota State University-Moorhead. He currently works as a Commercial Broker for Archer Real Estate Services and lives in Fargo.
